I believe a proficient educator seeks out ways to build a strong mutually respected connection to her (his) students.  I try to maintain an equal balance between being a respected authoritative figure and a professional, trusted mentor.  I encourage my students to have open, honest, and cooperative speaking & listening conversations.  I want them to express their feelings, interpretations, and personal experiences related to the subject matter we are studying.  By allowing my students to express themselves in the safety of our classroom, I believe they are internalizing better communication skills to promote their future success.

My students are at a very vulnerable time in their lives.  They are searching for self-identification, acceptance, and recognition.  I embed opportunities in my curriculum that provide my students with positive reflection, critical thinking skills, self-appreciation, and appropriate relationship boundaries.  By establishing classroom and educational goals; as well as, acknowledging student expectations sets the foundation for a successful academic year.  In addition, building a supportive network for my students is imperative.  I value parental participation and welcome your assistance in expanding the mental capacity of our youth.
