![]() Going to bed at the same time each night can help boost your child's academic performance. A study from the University College London found that a consistent bedtime is as important, if not more important that the amount of sleep a child gets. The study was published in July in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health and examined bedtimes and cognitive scores for 11,178 children. An inconsistent bedtime may affect cognitive development because it disrupts circadian rhythms. Circadian rhythms in humans affect body temperature, alertness, appetite as well as sleep. Going to bed at the same time each night helps to promote good sleep by following the child's natural cycle of sleep.
